Who We Are

SLACC is a voluntary organisation set up in 2014 with the aim of making South Loch Awe-side a better place to live and work by developing projects that strengthen the local community.

Projects should align with national and local development plans which focus on generating a thriving economy, growing supporting infrastructure, education and opportunities, people living active and healthy lives, and the development of safer and stronger communities ie. local job creation, increase in connectivity, service provision etc.

SLACC has already received funding from Local Energy Scotland and The National Lottery to facilitate projects, but the main aim is to develop entrepreneurial projects that are sustainable and revenue generating to allow further inward investment.

SLACC recognises that this cannot be done in isolation, and for projects that extend beyond the immediate community SLACC is working with its close neighbours.

There is usually a monthly meeting – open to all – and if you wish to find out when and where this is, either check the Facebook page or contact us by email.

Ongoing Projects

Ardchonnel School

An open meeting to discuss the Ardchonnel School Purchase Opportunity took place on 27th Jan. It was attended by 25 people plus Douglas Westwater and Victoria Pearse from Community Enterprise. A lot of ideas and views were put forward. These will now be taken by Community Enterprise and joined with feedback from other stakeholders, so that they can develop an independent and objective view of the project potential. The next stage will be interim feedback, which is understood will be in a couple of months, with more work then leading to a full Feasibility Report. The outcome will be interesting!

Broadband

The broadband scoping report has been submitted, but Community Broadband Scotland want us to link with neighbouring communities (aggregation) to develop a solution for a wider area including Glenorchy, Kilchrenan and Dunadd.

Ardchonnel Wood

Meeting has been organised with the Forestry Commission re possible community purchase of Ardchonnel Wood. This process is at the initial stages.

Prescription Delivery

Prescription delivery progress was also outlined, with general support for the concept received from the external stakeholders so far, but with the detail to be clarified. And, as ever, the devil is in the detail.

We will keep you informed on progress ……..
