WALK8
St Conan's Kirk & Loch Awe Steamers (1 hour)
From Kilchurn Castle and the Stronmilchan road junction you can proceed, with caution,
along the footpath beside the main road in direction of Oban. A short walk brings you to
the remarkable church and, also on the left, the access to railway station and steamer
pier. Every hour, on the hour, there are boat-trips down the Loch. (Plans are afoot to
start a ferry-service to Kilchurn castle as well from this point)
Return journey home : Bus from Oban for Dalmally calls at Loch Awe post office once in
morning around 12:45, once in late afternoon around 18:30
Trains are roughly the same time.
WALK 9
Glen Strae (1 hour)
Proceed through Stronmilchan as for Walk 6.
At dog-leg turn and bridges enter big farm gates and bear right. Follow main track (the
track to Duiletter is private) to attractive waterfalls and pool. The glen is a tranquil
place now, inhabited by only one family. In earlier times it was the home of the Clan
McGregor, then the Campbells, and could easily raise a hundred fighting men.
