| As the road meanders down the lochside, the traveller comes first to Balliemeanoch and then to Blarghour, two extensive hill farms offering self catering accommodation. The primary school for children living on the southside of the loch is at Ardchonnel, and the towering keep of Innischonnel Castle, dating back to the 13th century, is to be seen on an island just offshore. Driving through the once busy ferry port of Portinnisherrich, you reach the quiet little village of Eredine, famous for its clog making in the 19th century, which provides the fifth Post Office of the area. | ![]() At the south end of Loch Awe ![]() |
| Eredine House offers self catering accommodation and bed and breakfast in beautiful gardens beside the lochside. Seven miles further on, via the ruins of Fincharn Castle, you will again reach the end of the loch and Ford Hotel. It is of course quite feasible to explore the lochside as a circular tour. The loch is beautiful from every aspect; its surroundings are breathtakingly majestic, its wild life prolific and its history compelling and romantic. |
