And round to Ardanaiseig....
As you approach the dramatically narrow Pass of Brander, Scottish Power’s impressive Generating Station is completely hidden in the heart of massive Ben Cruachan while on the left is the Visitor Centre. The dam associated with the hydro-electric operation spans this arm of the loch. Beyond is a lay-by, a popular spot to see salmon leaping as they come upstream heading for the River Orchy. Through the Pass, road and rail compete for the strip of land at the water’s edge and an old and unique but effective system known as Anderson’s Piano can close the line in the event of any falling rock. Now the road leaves the lochside and, following the River Awe for some miles, heads for Inverawe, Taynuilt and Oban. On the road to Taynuilt village the well sign-posted B845 turns off to the left taking you via Glen Nant to Kilchrenan, where the historic pub provides delicious and satisfying meals.sheep

Ardnaiseig Hotel
Ardanaiseig Hotel
Turning left at the side of the Kilchrenan Inn one is on the road to Ardanaiseig, a prestigious hotel set in extensive grounds, with four-star cuisine and an amphitheatre on the edge of the loch. This hotel can also be reached by boat, seaplane and helicopter. Should you continue straight on at Kilchrenan the, again unmarked, road climbs for some miles to give superb elevated views over the loch, arriving eventually at the forestry village of Dalavich, where boats may be hired, forest walks explored and the shop and social club visited. From here the road heads for Ford village at the end of the loch and continues the circular route round the loch via the B840.
