Hillwalker News
Features of the Hillwalker Series

The Hillwaker Series represents true computer programming. The programs are not books or videos on a CD; books or video tapes are better media for that! The Hillwalker Series is written in Delphi, a high level computer language, to give facilities to the hillwalker not obtainable anywhere else. Only the Hillwalker maps have no ‘edges’, allowing drawing at any scale and location.

The Hillwalker Series is the only range which has ‘knowledge’ of the location of hills, enabling panoramas to be drawn from any point and bearings to be calculated from point to point. With a powerful enough computer, flypasts under your control are an interesting diversion.

As there are over 200 features in a Level 3 Hillwalker program, a leaflet like this can only touch on the surface. An appreciation is available from ISYS, but the best way to learn about the products is to own one!

Finally ISYS firmly believes that a human support desk is absolutely essential for any worthwhile product, and our Support Desk is rated as Excellent or Very Good by 95% of our users.

Hillwalker News

November 1999

Four great products from ISYS

And a fifth coming next year

Corbetts is launched at the National Mòd

At the Royal National Mòd at Fort William on 14 October, ISYS launched The Corbetts through Windows. Interest was spectacular with both Scottish Television and Grampian Television covering the launch on the news. BBC Radio broadcast interviews with Iain White, author, and Farquhar MacLennan, Gaelic advisor.

Allan Campbell, Chief Executive Officer of Comunn na Gàidhlig, speaking at the launch said "The authentic Gaelic pronunciation of every Corbett and Graham is spoken by Seonachan MacLeod, a native Gaelic speaker and a member of the Skye Mountain Rescue Team. This package will quite literally open a window on Gaelic to the many thousands of climbers who are enthusiastic supporters of the language but who couldn't until now pronounce the names in the landscape they cherish."

The Fort William Launch was followed by a full day public demonstration in Nevisport, Fort William.

The following week, evening demonstrations were given to locally invited audiences at James Thin, Inverness and Marshalls, Aberdeen. Everyone liked the new format of the program and the take-up was well above expectations.

A contribution to Mountain Rescue is made for each copy purchased.

The Munros through Windows® Version 3

ISBN 0 9528586 7 3 £39.99

This version of The Munros through Windows updates the current release and will be released in November 1999. The new program represents three year’s development on the current program. The ‘look and feel’ of the program has evolved to the Windows 98 standards and many new features have been added. All Hillwalker software runs on Windows 95, 98, NT and is being tested on Windows 2000. There are 600 photographs including the famous 360° panorama in Glen Coe. An even bigger panorama of the Skye Cuillin is quite mind-blowing.

Routes are provided by Irvine Butterfield from his famous book, The High Mountains of Britain and Ireland.

The New Munros will integrate with The Corbetts (and future Hillwalker products) to form a truly amazing visual encyclopaedia of the Scottish hills.

Comunn na Gàidhlig, An Comunn Gaidhealach and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig have given their independent approvals of the Gaelic translations, spellings and pronunciations in The Munros through Windows.

The Munros through Windows is the only Gaelic approved Munros CD.

The Corbetts through Windows® Version 3

ISBN 0 9528586 1 4 £39.99

The Corbetts was launched 14 October in Fort William, the heart of Corbett country, at the Royal National Mòd.

The Corbetts lists an amazing 2,000 Scottish hills, not just Corbetts but Grahams, Donalds, Munros and many others. The Corbetts through Windows is state-of-the-art software for hillwalkers in Scotland. Authentic Gaelic pronunciation of Corbetts and Grahams is by Seonachan MacLeod.

The program will fully integrate with the new Munros program and all planned future Hillwalker software.

Routes up every Corbett are written by Gordon Pirie. There are 204 walks in this program. As with all Hillwalker program, there is a Log for yourself and up to 10 friends. There is a statistics feature and ‘climbed’ hills’ can change colour. A comprehensive list of Reports is available.

Lakeland Fells through Windows®

ISBN 0 9528586 2 2 £39.99

This, the second CD in the Hillwalker Series, incorporates Harvey Walker and Superwalker Maps of the Lake District, showing map details of the planing area right on your screen. Paddy Dillon provides 100 walks to take you up over 300 Fells, including all the Wainrights. There are over 200 breathtaking photographs of the Fells.

The program is illustrated with traditional Lakeland music by the Pro Nobis singers of Kendal and the Old Friends’ Ceilidh Band.

There are over 150 different features in this program, including: Log for yourself and up to 10 friends, Quiz, Route cards to calculate bearings, time and time of day of your intended route. Panoramas can be drawn from every hill top and now from any point, allowing ‘fly past’. Map selection, Horizon distance and Distinguish climbed hills are just some of the other features in this comprehensive program.

The Munros through Windows®

ISBN 0 9528586 0 6 £39.99

This is the original and, until version 3 is launched, many would say the best CD for the Munros in Scotland. None can match it for number of features or authenticity. Launched in 1996 it has recently been installed in permanent live demonstration in the Museum of Scotland’s 20th Century Gallery. It was selected for its ease of use and its user interface. Visitors can use the program just by sitting in front of it.

Unbelievably, this is the only publication (book or CD) to give routes up every Munro and Top in Scotland. Irvine Butterfield also provides routes for all the 3,000ft hills furth of Scotland.

Comunn na Gàidhlig, An Comunn Gaidhealach and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig have given their independent approvals of the Gaelic translations, spellings and pronunciations in The Munros through Windows.

Mountains of Wales through Windows®

ISBN 0 9528586 3 0

Mountains of Wales is scheduled for release in Summer 2000. It will integrate with other Level 3 Hillwalker software. Further details will be announced later.
